My Parents Take On Project Runway S13 E11

Let me start by saying, as Carrie's dad--I hardly know the difference between a dress and a skirt or a peplum and a pleat. But I know what I like and what I don't.

(Dad wrote the majority of the post unless otherwise stated.)

The Challenge

Teams of two must bid on storage bins and then use these 'found' items to make two looks that are also cohesive.

It's a two day challenge.

Guest Judge

Christian Siriano - Fashion designer and judge on Lifetime's new show Threads.

My Gut Feeling prior to the show--

Unless someone snaps (like Fade a few weeks ago) or an outfit just bombs...then I think Emily leaves tonight. She's been in the middle and been fairly quiet. Char and Korina are just 'good T.V.' to send either one of them home.

The Show

The storage bins are full of various items. The teams are given $500 to bid on them. Once the bin is open, Tim starts the bidding.

Kini and Amanda seem pretty stuck with a bin of what appears to be mostly kid items--and don't have much fabric to choose from.

Char and Sean look like they have the best bins; they got two! They have LOTS of fabric.

Emily and Korina seem pretty well off.

Day 1 ends with no real drama. Tim enters early on day 2, with his twist. Each team will be creating a third look! Enter an opportunity to go to Mood and get more fabric. Kini and Amanda may have been thrown a life line. Amanda, Sean and Emily go to Mood.

Critique From Tim

Korina and Emily are taking a Fall/Winter approach. They have LOTS of textures. Nothing horrible, but nothing I just love at this stage either. Tim's comment: It's not dull, and it doesn't look like a joke.  Carrie's mom's comment:  I loved this comment from Tim.  I'm not sure what he meant by it exactly, but it makes you go...Hmmm.

Sean and Char are working on a black/blue/mesh theme. There's a long jacket which has potential. Char's shirt isn't getting a lot of love and the third piece is a...skirt?...and more talk of mesh. Looks like they have a lot of work left. Not loving Sean's jacket. It's just dull.

Kini and Amanda have Tim looking worried. Frankly, I'm not sure what's going on. A soccer ball skirt, and a psychedelic Yeti dress (or is it a jacket?) and the third look which was..well...I'm just not sure. Tim's comment: It looks like a teenage hooker. They re-work just about their entire outfits. And by golly, they get after it. I don't get the whole Yeti-thing.  Carrie's mom's comment:  I get the Yeti-thing.  I like the colors and the overall print.

Runway

Kini & Amanda

1st look: Super high-waisted pants. The material was purchased at Mood, and not part of the storage bin. Meh. The top...meh. I'm not loving it.  Carrie's mom's comment:  I didn't love this outfit...it's just not a look I love, but when Nina suggested that the model put the jacket from the soccer ball dress with this outfit...BAM, so cute!

2nd look: The psychedelic Yeti top and long dress. The top isn't as bad as I thought it could be. It's a true Amanda look. I wouldn't wear it, but it looks fun. Carrie's comment: The skirt is made from a freakin' cheap party tablecloth!!!! It looks so cool!!!  Carrie's mom's comment:  I LOVE the top!!  I would sooo wear it, and the tablecloth skirt.  Awesome!!

3rd look: Soccer ball dress. No joke. Kini takes apart soccer balls and sews them into a dress. I'm not loving the fur jacket that they have with it, but the soccer ball cut0out pattern looks great.  Carrie's mom's comment:  This dress was amazing!

Cohesiveness: From the runway, they all have some black and white. Their story, later, brings it all into focus.

Char & Sean

1st look: Tight mini-dress under a good looking, long, blue jacket. The dress is so tight the model can't walk too fast. I like the jacket, the dress is...meh.  Carrie's mom's comment:  The jacket/trench coat was the only good thing in this collection.  Loved the back.

2nd look: A long dress with mesh stripes and a lamp shade at the bottom. Sean can do some amazing things--but this time it may be a little lacking. The model can hardly walk in the thing. The look is interesting, but not very wearable.

3rd look: Another mesh dress with a sheer jacket or something over it. Looking a little hooker-ish.

[The blue dress at the end comes in later]

Cohesiveness: From the runway, the mesh and blue and black do tend to tie everything together. Even if the blues don't all match

Emily & Korina

1st look: A seat cushion fashioned into a top. There's a lot of different fabrics and textures happening here. I don't hate it--but I don't love it either.

2nd look: A sweater (fabric from Mood) and leather-ish pants. Nice look.

3rd look: A definite Korina skirt with a cape as well as a shirt that you can't see. I like the look, though it is heavy.

[The black and white dress at the end comes in later]

Cohesiveness: Wintery feel. But no real colors or textures that tie it all together.

Lesson to learn: When the judges are talking to the designers, Korina needs to learn when to be quiet.  She needs to quit talking, and stop saying every little thing that pops into her head.  Carrie's mom's comment:  Oh Korina!!  Please stop talking.

TOP:

Kini & Amanda

 WINNER:

Kini! (Yea!)

Bottom:

Sean & Char as well as Emily & Korina. The very bottom: Char and Korina

WAIT! The bottom two designers are going to go head-to-head. They each have one hour to create a dress. Their teammate can help them.

Char is focused and clearly knows what she wants and which fabric she'd like to use. She creates the blue dress from above.  Carrie's mom's comment:  Beautiful!!  And she did it, with Sean's help of course, in just an hour.

Korina sends out bad karma. So much so, that Emily doesn't even want to help her anymore. Korina creates the black and white dress from above.

OUT:

Korina. I didn't see that coming an hour ago, but 45 minutes into the show, well, I can't say that I'm surprised.

Carrie's closing statement:

I hate being negative on my blog but seriously Korina was so rude to everyone that everyone in my house was thrilled to she her go! She was ripping people apart even after she had been eliminated!

  2. Thanks! I thought it would be really fun to see what they thought! I can't wait for you to watch the episode because drama doesn't even begin to explain it! Tell me what you think after you see it!
