Sunday Reflections~ The Lessons We Learn

8dc7e30e3231f5df3a2471b70ce9b66a

"We don't meet people by accident. They are meant to cross our path for a reason."

I am fairly certain that by this point in your life you have had a friendship that did not end so well (and if you haven't, lucky you). I know I definitely have and there are often times I look back on this friendship and wonder why. However, I am a sound believer that everything happens for a reason. That person you are no longer friends with was brought into your life for a purpose or to teach you a lesson. What you do with that lesson is up to you. That lesson you may not understand now, but maybe that's because it is not for you. Now you may be thinking, "What do you mean Carrie? You said they were here to teach me a lesson!" let me explain. There may be something that happens you don't understand because that lesson may not be for you, but for you to help somebody else. Let's say 15 or 20 years from now your daughter is going through something with a friend and you have no idea what to say to her, but then you think back and realize you went through the same thing and have a ton of advice. Without that person you would not be able to help her or give her guidance. Now think about all the wonderful friends you have now. All the crazy fun times and stories that make you guys laugh but nobody else gets! Without that amazing person in your life you wouldn't have those fond memories that make you laugh till you cry. Everyone who has ever come into our life has affected us in one way or another, and we owe them our thanks.

Have you ever looked back on an experience and realized it taught you a big lesson?

xoxo

My Take On Project Runway S13 E10

The Challenge:

Find your own "real person" model in Washington Square Park and design an outfit for them. Before and After style because the "models" were also getting full hair and makeup makeovers.

Guest Judges:

Michelle Monghan- Actress

Asha Leo- TV host and model

Project-Runway-Season-13-Episode-10-Review-STILLS-Television-Tom-Lorenzo-Site-TLO-2

During the show:

Emily found a model a lot quicker than I thought she would, and Sean is taking longer than I thought it should take him.

I love everyone's fabric choices from Mood- so fun!

Really worried about Kini because the girl he found to be his model has a completely different style than he does.

Korina is being incredibly rude and cocky and needs to be taken down a peg or two! I am completely ready for her to go!

Char looks like she is designing for a 20 year old not someone who is a teacher and has a daughter. She needs to keep her client in mind when she designs.

I really hope Amanda and Alexander can pull their designs off, especially after Tim told Alexander his look was hideous.

I actually really like Kini's dress and think it is super fun!

I think the neck Emily has put on her dress is way too extravagant and definitely not everyday wear!

I do not hate Korina's jacket; I just think she has made this jacket before.

PollEpisode10Season13

(left to right)

During the runway:

Alexander- Cute and goes with the girls style! However, the top did not seem to fit very well, but he was hard pressed for time.

Amanda- There was something not quite "Amanda" about this look. The dress was too short and not well made; I also feel like it is a very basic dress that I could go out and buy anywhere.

Char- The model (thankfully) has the legs to work the shorts, but I am still not sure they are appropriate. The peplum looks stuck on and not cohesive with the rest of the look.

Emily- I have come to the conclusion that I just do not like her style in general. With this look I felt that the neck was too much, and the bottom was too informal to go with the top.

Kini- This is not my favorite look he has done, but still very good! The styling on the dress was fantastic, and the denim turned out very nice!

Amanda- While the look is nice I feel like she has done it before.

Sean- Very 20s and classy! Plus the slit and fringe added some fun to an otherwise very formal dress.

Summer Beauty Empties

If you watch beauty gurus on YouTube then you would know that one of the most popular videos is an Empties video. In this video they show what products that have used up and give you a quick review of that product. That is exactly what I will be doing today except in written form. I thought that if y'all liked this I could do them seasonally!

Shower::

IMG_5133

St. Ives Indulgent Coconut Milk- This is probably my favorite body wash ever! First, it smells like coconuts!!!!! Second, it may be the most moisturizing body wash I have ever used, which is really important in the summer.

Philosophy Christmas Cookies- This was part of a Christmas set so I do not believe this is sold year round. I really did enjoy using this body wash because it smelled exactly like Christmas cookies. My only negative is that I wish it foamed a little more.

Hair::

IMG_5134

Batiste Dry Shampoo in Blush- Best dry shampoo ever!!!!!! Seriously, if you have had bad experiences with dry shampoo before, try this one! They even have one that is dark so it won't put the white stuff in dark hair.

Herbal Essences Honey I'm Strong Strengthening Serum- This is one of those products I enjoyed using but I'm not sure if it actually did anything. I would say this product is passable because I really don't miss using it.

Face::

IMG_5135

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer- I really liked this concealer when I was using it but I have found a better one now. I still would recommend this!

Revlon ColorStay Foundation- I felt like this foundation was very heavy and full coverage, which can be great, it is just not what I need. If you don't need full coverage then don't use this.

CoverGirl Clean Oil Control Pressed Powder- I love this powder so much I bought a second one (which says a lot for me!). I 100% recommend this product to anyone, but I have heard great things about the Rimmel Stay Matte powder so I may have to try that soon.

Eyes::

IMG_5137

Clinique High Impact Mascara- This is my holy grail, tried and true, love of my life mascara! I know this mascara will never let me done and I always have one in my mascara collection. If you haven't tried this please do!!

Maybelline Master Duo Eyeliner- I have learned one thing while using this product-- I don't like liquid liner. If you aren't amazing with liquid liner then just stick to pencil or gel it is so much easier!

Urban Decay Naked 3 24/7 Glide-On Double Ended Eye Pencil- So as you can see I didn't use this up, I just broke the tips in the pencil sharpener. I LOVED this eyeliner so much! Definitely recommend this for everyone, and definitely buying a new one!

Skincare::

IMG_5138

Clean&Clear Morning Burst Hydrating Gel Moisturizer- I, obviously, love this product soooo much! I even have another one in my bathroom right now. I have combination skin and this works so well for me.

Clean&Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment- This is the best acne spot treatment ever! It clears everything up really quickly!

More Skincare::

IMG_5139

Up&UP Cleansing Towelettes- These worked fairly well. My only compliant is that I wish they were wetter.

Neutrogena Clear Pore Oil-Eliminating Astringent- I loved this stuff, and I really miss having it! If you have oily acne prone skin definitely give this a try!

Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover- This is another product I really miss having. The eye makeup remover I have now simply doesn't compare. If you are looking for a new eye makeup remover give this one a try!

Sunday Reflections ~ Comfort Zones

sunday 1

"Great things never came from comfort zones." I think we all can relate. I hope every single one of y'all has done something that pushed you, because that is truly the only way we can grow. If I had stayed in my comfort zone where I felt 100% safe I would not have a blog, I would not have joined Smart Girls Group, and I would not be taking advanced classes. The simple reason being when I first started each of these things they scared the crap out of me! I was nervous and intimidated, but I was pushed to grow and be the best I could be. This quote also makes me think of all of my years taking dance. If I never tried something new I would still be in Pre-K ballet, and I definitely would not be doing pointe! I really encourage all of you to try something new that will make you to grow and change.

What have you done as a result of breaking out of your comfort zone?

My Take On Project Runway S13 E 9

The Challenge:

Each designer is paired with an American Girl Doll and a young girl that will act as their model. They are to draw inspiration from the doll's story and history and design a child's outfit. The designers are also provided with fabric that matches the dolls clothes, but they can also go to Mood and pick their own.

Guest Judges:

Elizabeth Moss- Mad Men

Heather Northrop- Senior Design Manager at American Girl

prs13_070814_bn-0006

During the show:

Emily definitely has the advantage in this challenge because she already has a kid's line. However, I like the idea of the tulle skirt, but the colors seem a bit drab.

I really don't know how I feel about Sandhya as a person anymore. Part of me really feels bad for her, but the other part of me says that she is being pretty rude to some people.

love the jacket Kini has made, but I am worried about how the rest of the look will come together.

Alexander's look doesn't seem to connect with his doll to me, but I really like the colors.

The pattern on Char's dress is really cute and fun, but the fringe vest she wants to put over it looks like a costume to me.

The shape of Korina's dress seems a little mature to me, not fun and light like a little girls dress should be!

Sandhya's look seems very homemade to me. I really don't like her design or the fabrics she is putting together.

It is truly amazing fast Kini works!

PollEpisode9Season13

(from left to right)

Alexander- I like this look... I think... His outfit is really cute but for me there slightly off that I cannot put my finger on. Either the bottoms don't fit quite right or the top is too sophisticated. I am really not sure how I feel about this.

Amanda- Her look came together effortlessly! The fabrics look cute and playful together, and I could see any little girl wearing that look.

Char- Like I said before, I really like the dress, and the colors represent her character very well. I think there is too much fringe on the jacket and it overwhelms the dress, but I can see why many people would really like this look.

Emily- Her outfit was very dark, and something I would not want to put my future daughter in! She also put a veil/net thing around her face, which was just odd and made it look like she was going to funeral to me. I could never see American Girl having an outfit like this.

Kini- I honestly want everything he made! The jacket and the dress are perfect!!! I would have no problem matching an American Girl Doll if I looked that cute!

Korina- Her looked turned out very nice! The panels she added made the dress have good movement and a fun and playful side to it.

Sandhya- This look is a mess! The peplum looks very odd, the buttons look like pokemon balls, and the whole thing just looks like a onesie! It even snaps up the back like a baby onesie would!

Sean- His look really had nothing special about it. The outfit was too plain and dull, not bright like the 70s inspired outfit could have been.

Friday Favorites

Throughout this past week I was reading my past few Friday Favorites and noticed a trend... I complain a lot. Mostly about my school week and how rough it was. I decided to change all of that and every week come up with (at least) three good things that happened and share them with y'all! I would love it if you would share some of your happy moments in the comments below.

1. I survived my first Pre-AP Chemistry test!!!

2. I went on my first Student Recruiter trip to another school.

3. I helped my friend set up her blog www.gabbingabbyblogs.wordpress.com

4. I was interviewed by The Trendy Chick and the interview is up now!!!

Now let's get to the favorites!

This wonderful video by Kid President (that everybody should watch)//

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5-EwrhsMzY

This is my favorite of all of his videos, but I will have two others at the end of this post which I also love!

This seriously delicious yogurt that is my new favorite treat//

0003663201865_500X500If you haven't tried this yogurt yet stop what you are doing and go buy some... I'll wait! This is honestly the best yogurt I have ever tried! It is Dannon OIKOS Traditional Greek Yogurt in the apple pie flavor, and it basically tastes like cinnamon yogurt (which is actually the best)!!!

Sunday Reflections

" Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life."

So like I mentioned in my Friday Favorites post Smart Girls Group won the Marie Claire Who Is Changing The World Challenge! I started thinking about when I joined SGG and once I saw this quote I knew I had to do a SR post on it. I have been part of SGG for less than a year and it has already touched my life in so many ways! When I first joined it seemed like no big deal, but I can honestly say my life would be different if it wasn't for SGG. If I hadn't really gotten to know my Smart Girls Loop Editor 9 months ago, and she hadn't encouraged me to start my own blog, I wouldn't be writing this today. Also, if it weren't for her I wouldn't have realized what I really want to do. I wouldn't have meet so amazing people, and I wouldn't have been inspired by the Conference this summer. This Sunday Reflections is dedicated to Smart Girls Group and all the amazing girls who are part of SGG - thank you for everything you do and all the girls you have brought together!

My Take On Project Runway S13 E8

The Challenge:

The challenge this week on Project Runway was to make a cutting edge avant-garde design. The twist was also that the models will be walking on a rainway aka a catwalk will rain pouring down on it. Also, for those who don't know, avant-garde is not supposed to be wearable; it is more of an art form.

prs13_070714_bn-0203_rDuring the show:

I was so happy they finally had two days to perfect their work!

Sean's idea looks really cool, but I am worried about whether or not it will work.

Kini's idea about the skirt being an upside-down umbrella sounds very interesting!

I am worried about Fade both personally and design wise. He seems really homesick and as a result is uninspired.

Korina's design looks ridiculous to me, but so did last week's and she ended up winning so.....

Emily really needs to get over this whole I love hoods thing!

I do not hate the bright pants Sandhya made. I mean I don't love them, but I definitely don't hate them.

I love the flowers Alexander is making for his dress!

Most of the designs look really promising, but I am worried about whether the designers will be able to execute their designs.

PollEpisode8Season13

(left to right, top to bottom)

Alexander- I loved the purple 3D flowers coming off the clear dress! Very well done!

Amanda- I really was not sure how her look was going to turn out but I ended up liking it! The makeup, jewelry, and dress looked wonderful together.

Char- I don't know... I mean it was ok...

Emily- The actual dress itself I didn't mind, but the hood, gloves, and shoulder pads were too much and didn't work together.

Fade- Way to plain and simple.

Kini- His look was wonderful and very high fashion. The upside down umbrella skirt was very well executed as usual!

Korina- Again, I just found this look odd. I know that tends to be what avant-garde is, but this just looks like a space dress.

Sandhya- Here's my thing: if the pants had been tighter and gone to her ankles, and if the jacket had been made without the dangling pinwheels it would have been OK. But it wasn't, so I was not the biggest fan.

Sean- Let me explain what this dress is. He put powdered color into the seams, so when the rain fell on the runway the color came out. The dress ended up being gorgeous and I couldn't stop smiling when I saw it! It truly was amazing to see. :)

Top:

Kini, Sean, and Sandhya

Bottom:

Korina, Fade, and Emily

Winner:

Sean and Kini!!!!

I am so happy Kini finally won a challenge! Both of their dresses were stunning so I get way the judges chose both.
